
How to Obtain a Marriage License in the Bahamas
Couples planning a Bahama destination wedding must obtain a marriage license in the Bahamas. The license is 100% legal and will be recognized in your home country. Open Monday through Friday from 9:30am – 4:00pm, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Registrar General office is located in Nassau. Weddings in the Bahamas will arrange transportation from your hotel or cruise line port and personally escort you to the Registrar so the application is processed appropriately and a certificate of marriage is in your hands before your big day.

Do I need an Apostille?: Some countries require official documents, such as international marriage certificates, be certified by the issuing country. In these cases, an Apostille is a special seal that is applied by the Bahamian Secretary of State office to certify that a document is a true copy of an original. Weddings in the Bahamas will determine if an Apostille is needed ahead of time so the special request is made and submitted properly.
Same Sex Marriage License: While many LGBTQ organizations are advocating for changes to the marriage laws in the Bahamas; currently, marriage licenses in the Bahamas can only be issued to a man and woman.
